Unlocking the NFC chip​

The data stored on NFC chips within identity documents is encrypted. In order to unlock the NFC chip, Ozone needs to be provided with the passport/document number, date of expiration, and date of birth. There are currently 2 ways to obtain the required data:

  1. After capturing and uploading an image of the document to the document processing api, the api will extract the data needed to unlock the chip. This data can then be pulled from the backend and used to unlock the chip.
  2. Asking the user to manually enter the data.

One of the improvements we are working on is offering on-device MRZ reading as part of SmartCapture Document Camera. Once this is available, the object output by the document camera will also include all of the fields needed to unlock the chip.
